Anyone with website promotion ideas?

I have a website where I sell herbal products. I have an email newsletter, and a seasonal catalog that I mail out. I recently did a promotion on a few freebie message boards, offering free samples of some of my products. That went over really well.

My question is, what are some ways that I can promote my website or gain more addresses for future mailings without spending a ton of money? Mailing lists are fairly expensive.

Does anyone have any ideas? Serious responses only please.

1. Ask your current clients for referals. Offer then an incentive... like 30% off for refering a friend.
2. Good AdSense.
