"Web2.0 logos" - I probably won't get it, ever.

some really vomit inducton so called web2.0 design - luckily this one isa pardoy site :)

On my daily excursions on Digital Point Forum i came across one ad offering the "creation of Web2.0 headers and logos".

Of course, curious as i am, i wanted to know exactly what a "Web2.0 header" is.... what is the difference between a "normal" logo/header...the "normal" way to to graphic design in Photoshop or Paintshop - and the "Web2.0" way.

I mean...there should be a legitimation for this term "web2.0 graphics", shouldn't there ?

So i got on google and did some searches....and it actually came up with some results, wheareas 80% of them were parodies or simply jokes......confirming my inital suspicions what was going on with the so called "web2.0 graphics".

To give you an example: this is supposed to be a typical "Web2.0" header...
(Create one here)

Tutorials for Photoshop(tm) and paintshop(tm) in regards to "web2.0 design" were all limited to explaining "how to do nice gradients...." and "how to add those nice water/mirror effect"...that's it.

It didn't take too long that the only common denominator here is:

  • it has to be exceptionally boring and mindless
  • it must have shiny mirror effects and gradients
  • it must be really simple. And i mean: Really simple...

There are people who think that it's a must "in this time of web2.0" to go with the stream - therefore you *need* a "web2.0 header" for your site - if you don't your business is doomed from the start. "And..you really don't want to miss the "web2.0 train", don't you ?" :)

So people, let's all go back to 1991 and create some "web2.0 logos" on our C64s and Atari ST - i am sure we can make a fortune selling them ...

Btw. if someone "gets it" - feel free to email me so i can get enlightened...
